Friday, 6th December 2024
9.30am - 2.30pm
The development of handwriting is an important activity in the school curriculum. The process of handwriting involves the complicated co-ordination of motor, perceptual and cognitive skills which, do not always
develop spontaneously, but require considerable explanation, demonstration, experimentation and practice.
Many children struggle with this area of their education with a negative effect on their confidence and academic attainment.
This practical training day will consider:
- Biomechanical and ergonomic influences on handwriting legibility
- Consider handwriting from both a perceptual-motor and kinaesthetic perspective
- Identifying issues experienced by children in both primary and secondary education
- When it is appropriate to recommend the use of a keyboard to aid the individuals written communication
Training day outcomes:
Delegates will be able to analyse samples from pupils whose handwriting they are concerned about
Formulate a specific intervention plan to address the identified issues
